National Foundation for Autism Research
What they do & why we invested
The National Foundation for Autism Research (NFAR) is dedicated to reversing autism unemployment while creating a much-needed talent pool for tech and other industries in San Diego. NFAR prepares young adults with autism for sustainable employment and connects them with local jobs that align with their strengths through its signature training programs: NFAR Tech, a 7-month software testing vocational program that trains individuals to become software testers, and NFAR Works, an 11-month program training individuals to work in office and light manufacturing environments.
Due to COVID-19, NFAR has faced a significant loss of revenue from suspended services, canceled fundraisers, and declines in individual donations. NFAR will use this loan to maintain facilities and staffing during the pandemic. It will put the organization in a better position to increase services once shutdowns end, allowing them to continue meeting the needs of San Diegans with autism.
