EVmatch
What they do
EVmatch is committed to increasing the adoption of electric vehicles (EV) by making charging easy, reliable, and accessible.
Founded by climate policy and energy management leader Heather Hochrein, EVmatch is an online marketplace that offers users access to a nationwide peer-to-peer EV charging network, enabling individuals and business owners to rent out underutilized private charging stations, earn money, and promote environmental health by increasing EV charging access.
Why we invested
EVmatch received a $728k grant from the California Energy Commission. This grant will allow EVmatch to install publicly accessible EV charging stations at multi-family apartment complexes across California, primarily in San Diego, Santa Clara, and Los Angeles counties.
Currently, renters and apartment dwellers have limited access to reliable EV charging. Increasing access to charging stations can improve the adoption of electric vehicles, an important greenhouse gas emissions reduction strategy for California.
The loan from Mission Driven Finance will help EVmatch purchase hardware ahead of the installations so the company can deliver on the grant requirements.
EVmatch has committed to installing a quarter of its stations in communities assessed to have poorer air quality according to the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment mapping tool (areas with a Pollution Burden score in the 70th percentile and above). In North America, areas with poor air quality tend to correlate with low socioeconomic status communities according to the National Institute of Environmental Health Science.
