Alejandro Santa Cruz, CFA

VP of Investment Management

Alejandro has been actively involved in the financial sector since 1994, focusing on opportunities to harness the use of capital for positive impact. He began his career as a credit manager at Scotiabank and later worked as a financial sector analyst with Duff & Phelps (fixed income) and Bear Stearns & Co. (equity). In 2000, Alejandro joined Darby Overseas Investments’ private equity practice. In 2005, he co-founded the LatAm/MexDAM/AxeFin Group to pursue overlooked, high-yield investments in emerging markets on behalf of institutional investors and hedge funds. Through this platform, he acquired, originated, underwrote, and managed over $1 billion in diversified financial assets, including a portfolio of loans to SME borrowers. In 2019–20, he obtained technical certifications and accreditations in ESG and sustainable investing, joining Foss & Co. to assist corporations in investing federal tax dollars in renewable energy projects. One of his passions is the time-honored spirit of mezcal, and he partnered with a fifth-generation Zapotec mezcalero family to launch the successful organic artisanal brand Wahaka Mezcal. Alejandro earned an MBA from McGill University and a BBA in marketing and finance from Baylor. He is based in Austin, TX.
