Seeing the impact in person

In June, our distributed team had the opportunity to connect with each other in real life in San Diego. Since our team has grown so much over the past few months, for many of us, this was the first time we met each other outside of Zoom.

We got to learn more about each other’s strengths, broke bread at locally-owned restaurants, played trivia, and shared our hopes and dreams for the rest of this year. But no retreat is complete without some field trips!

Over the course of two days, we got to put our muscles to work at Project New Village’s Good Food District planting a new apothecary, we visited portfolio company Somali Family Service of San Diego and learned about their impressive work on health and workforce development, and we got to learn about Vietnamese delicacies at Vien Dong 4, a supermarket run by the Tran family, longtime community champions.
